Oil Pulling turned me off when I fist heard about it. Why would anyone want to swish oil in their mouth for twenty minutes? AND who has time for that!?
Then, I researched and found the life changing benefits oil pulling has to offer. After that, I tried it for myself and have become hooked on this fabulous detoxification technique.
What is Oil Pulling?
Oil pulling is an ancient technique for detox and rejuvenation. In a nut shell, you swish oil around in your mouth for up to 20 minutes. The process attracts and removes bacteria, toxins, and parasites that live in your mouth or lymph system, and also pulls congestion and mucus from your throat and loosens up your sinuses.
Oil pulling traditionally uses virgin sesame oil, however coconut oil has also become popular and is my personal oil of choice. I prefer to use raw coconut oil because it has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and enzymatic properties. This provides the added benefit of killing any unwanted bacteria that may be residing in the mouth.
Benefits of Oil Pulling
Strong white teeth and healthy gums: Oil pulling helps re-mineralize your teeth and strengthen your gums by thoroughly cleansing the area. My teeth got noticeable whiter, and my gums no longer bleed. Many people notice morning breath disappear and a clean, refreshed tongue.
Clear Skin: Because oil pulling draws out toxins and bacteria, many people notice clearer and smoother skin as a result. Many holistic skin professionals now prescribe oil pulling for acne or any other skin concern.
Relief from congestion in the sinuses and throat: People struggling with chronic sinus congestion or mucus in the throat tend to experience tremendous relief after oil pulling only once. Next time you have a cold or sore throat, give oil pulling a try and see the symptoms vanish.
How to Oil Pull
To begin the journey of oil pulling, it is best to be committed to it for 30 days in a row to notice incredible results. I like to go one month on, one month off, all year around.
1. Scoop ½ to 1 full tablespoon of oil into the mouth
3. Continue the pulling for 20 minutes. I like to do my morning reading or take a shower during this time- (Weirdest multitasking I have ever done)
4. Once your time pulling is over, spit into the trash or toilet, but never the sink — the oil could solidify and clog your drain.
5. Now rinse your mouth out with clean water two or three times.
That’s it! Detox and get white teeth while you read, or shower, or make breakfast… killing two birds with one stone at it’s finest. I love using Kapuluan Coconut Oil because it is 100% Organic, raw, and hand crafted in small batches unlike most coconut oils!
