Benefits of Maya Abdominal Massage (Arvigo Technique)

“The uterus is the woman’s core, if it is out of balance, her whole life is out of balance-physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.” -Don Elijio Panti

After personally experiencing the incredible benefits of Maya abdominal massage, I wanted to share a little about how it works and why I think every woman should be doing it.

What is Maya Abdominal Massage?

Officially called Arvigo®Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT). The Arvigo® techniques were developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN based on her apprenticeship in Belize with the Maya healer Don Elijio Panti and her own education, training, and research as a naturopathic physician. She developed a thorough method of abdominal massage founded on ancient Maya techniques while adding her exceptional knowledge of anatomy.

The therapy has many components, but it centers upon a noninvasive yet penetrating abdominal massage aimed at realigning internal organs that have moved or are otherwise out of balance. Therapists gently guide these organs to an optimal position, thereby enhancing the body’s five systems of flow—arterial, venal, nerve, lymph and ch’ulel (Mayan for “life force”)—improving organ function and minimizing symptoms of dysfunction.

A first session is around 2 hours and can include other modalities such a castor oil packs, yoni steams, and herbal tinctures.

Although this therapy is extremely beneficial to women, it can also be healing to men and children as well as it aligns all internal organs and increases flow and oxygen to vital systems of the body.

What I love most about this technique is that each practitioner will also teach you how to do it yourself at home! So you can keep up the benefits, for free.

Benefits of Maya Abdominal Massage

“When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems of the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order,” -Lisa Levine

Enhanced digestion and relief from bloating, constipation and other digestive disorders.

Optimizes gynecological health: Acts as a “uterine cleanse” to reduce or relieve pelvic discomfort associated with endometriosis, uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts. As well as prevent them in the future!

Helps elevate pelvic pain and/or painful sex

Helps to address pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapsed uterus or bladder and can prevent organ prolapse

Dramatically increases fertility AND keeps everything aligned and flowing in the 2nd and 3rd trimester

Regulates Menstruation leading to regular, easy, pain-free periods.

Optimizes postpartum recovery

Aides in hormonal balance via improved blood flow to the pelvis that ensures hormones reach where they need to go leading to a feeling of vitality while the body undergoes changes

Helpful for those who ‘leak’ when running or jumping

Basically, if you want all of your reproductive and digestive systems working 100%, I can’t recommend this enough. Especially if you are dealing with any period problems, pain, or infertility.
