Top Insight From MindBody Tool Kit by Dr. Kim D’eramo

1 . Thoughts

How you think about yourself and your life has a lot to do with whether you experience life in health and fulfillment or you don’t. Every thought you have is a chemical reaction in your body. Your entire internal state actually begins with your thoughts. It is your internal state that drives all of your behaviors and dictates every single thing you do.

Negative thoughts generative chemicals that are damaging to your cells and causing inflammation within the entire body.

Each thought creates a chemical reaction in your body. You are either making healing hormones and neurotransmitters or you are making toxic hormones and neurotransmitters.

2 . Two Body States

You can only be in 1 of 2 states at any given time. Parasympathetic or sympathetic. Fight or flight or the relaxation response.

Fight or flight(sympathetic):

  • Negative thoughts generative chemicals that are damaging to your cells and causing inflammation within the entire body.
  • Negative thoughts and feeling put your body in fight or flight.
  • In fight or flight, the part of your brain that is responsible for good decisions, self-control, creativity, is shut off. Hence WHY we make terrible decisions, say things we wish we hadn’t, and make problems worse when we are in a bad state of emotion.
  • Your immune system is shut off- your hormonal system is shut off.

Parasympathetic (relaxation response):

  • Your immune system is strengthened and you are resistant to bacteria and viruses.
  • Your hormones and neurotransmitters are balanced, making you feel and look amazing.

The relaxation response has been definitively shown to reverse virtually every disease state known to man! Even a person with a terrible genetic predisposition can exhibit perfect health when his thoughts are aligned.

You could be eating the healthiest foods in the world and exercising every day – but if you are constantly in fight or flight – your immune, digestion, and hormonal systems are shut down which is blocking your ability to heal from whatever you may have going on.

The number one thing you can do to heal is get into a relation response.

3. Changing your Emotional State

Your emotional state determines how you experience life day to day. Most people are not aware of their emotional state and therefore life just happens to them, and the feel out of control.

Our emotions determine our beliefs, perceptions, and behaviors. Most people believe they cannot control their emotions- but we can actually intentionally change our emotional state anytime we need to.

You can think one thing and not believe or feel it. When you think ‘I am a success’ but do not feel like you are…. this is when you use your emotions to change your body.

Starting thinking about what would it FEEL LIKE to be a success? If you can generate that feeling and let it wash over your body- you change the cellular messages going on inside your body. You initiate the positive chemical state.

Whatever thoughts you are holding create your internal state. Holding thoughts like ‘I am nervous, why would anyone listen to me” verses I am a massive success and can do anything I choose” truly does impact others around you.

Your impact on others is directly related to your internal state. Everyone knows what is going on inside of you on a subconscious level, and will respond and treat you accordingly, even if they have no idea why. Your life will always reflect your thoughts about yourself.

Feel the emotions of your desired outcome, and you generate the brain activity that matches it- and your brain emits and an electromagnetic field that affects everyone and everything around you!

ABC’s

A tool Dr. Kim D’eramo mentions to shift your emotional state:

A: become aware.

Name exactly what you are feeling. Just awareness of your internal state shifts your chemistry immediately and calls the amygdala in the brain. This brings you from an unconscious to a conscious state- you are disrupting your autopilot and automatic thought patterns to change your body.

You need to practice thinking about what you are thinking about! Take time throughout the day to stop and actually tune into what you are thinking and feeling. Most people NEVER do this, and most people live in this unawakened state- which is creating your life.

B: Breathe: The breath has the ability to transform your chemical energetic state immediately. Breathing turns back on the part of your brain that allows your to have self-control, healing, and peace. You must stop and breathe deeply to properly release old emotional energy and make space to process and receive new energy. Your breather moves energy through your body. You need to move bad energy out, and breathe good energy in.

Breathing takes you from a sympathetic state (immune, hormone, and logical thinking systems shut down) to parasympathetic (healing on, thinking on, body in balance)

If you are really angry or upset and do not take a second to breathe- your reaction is not going to be the best simply because that part of your brain is shut down.

C: Choose.

Now that you are in an aware state and you can think properly. It is time to make the choice. Choose your reaction. ‘I choose to feel better’. I choose to not say anything at this moment. I choose to eat healthy and do xyz because that will make me feel the best. We always have the choice how we are going to respond to any situation that comes our way.

4. Focus . . . . on what you DO want

In our society, we have been trained to focus on what we do not want. When something is going wrong, we tend to focus on what we do not want to happen instead of what we do want to happen.

When you put your attention on what you do want, you immediately begin to generate positive neurotransmitters that nourish your cells and create a higher emotional state.

When you find yourself in a low emotional state- focus on what you DO want and you will be amazed how things begin to change.

  • If you are feeling fatigued- think “I want to feel alert and vibrant”
  • If you are feeling lack – focus on the abundance you already have and the fact that God’s resources are unlimited.

The real truth is that life responds to your beliefs and you will always see evidence to support what you currently think! It takes a willingness to consider a new possibility.

5. Words

Our words are powerful- they truly have an impact on every cell of our body.

Your body responds to your words and your thoughts! Whatever you think and say is programming your body on what to do.

If you are ill and keep saying over and over” “I feel like crap, I am so tired” etc. your words are programming your body to create harmful chemicals that make you sick. Instead, try saying ‘my body is processing something, I will feel better soon” your body responds accordingly and chemical changes occur to bring about health.

Saying things like “I have terrible skin”, “I have a slow metabolism”, etc. you are telling your body to create the cells and conditions to have bad skin and a slow metabolism.

Take Away

  • You are constantly interpreting the world through whatever emotional state you are in. Change your emotional state! If you are in a low emotional state- you will continue to see things happening in your life that are bad. If you shift into a higher emotional state, you will begin to interpret your reality differently.
  • Your body responds to your every thought and word by creating hormones and neurotransmitters.
  • Your words, thoughts, and emotions have more control over your health and body than any other factor! Watch what you think and speak to yourself!
  • Each day
    • Focus on what you do want: how you do want to feel, how you do want to look, and what you do want to accomplish
    • When in a low state- do things to shift into a higher emotional state. Dance, laugh, shake, listen to something inspiring, talk to someone. . . anything that changes your state!
