How This Nourishes Your Body

Did you know that certain kinds of Medicinal Mushrooms can immediately boost your immunity by up to 300%?!

In the past, I always thought of mushrooms as some hippy-dippy -whoo-whoo drug that people use to hallucinate. However, after studying functional medicine and the truly unique nutrients mushrooms carry, I quickly changed my mind.

Mushrooms have the power to kill viruses, bacteria, yeast, destroy cancer cells, and even assist with nerve regeneration. Numerous scientific studies have been done proving all of this, even though this humble food has been around for ages.

Medicinal mushrooms contain some of the most potent medicine in the world. They provide our bodies with the nutrients, proteins, minerals, and vitamins it needs to generate energy and repair cells. They are one of the most remarkable elements for a healthy immune system.

I like to load up on them in times of stress and entering into flu season to keep my immune system strong and fighting. Forget the flu shot, get some mushrooms in and you will be better protected 😉

Medicinal Mushrooms to Boost Your Health

Shiitake and Maitake:

These mushrooms are especially powerful at preventing the flu and other pathogens from harming your body. These powerful mushrooms are high in compounds called beta glucans, which are helpful sugars found in the cell walls of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, and algae. These glucans work by stimulating the immune system and activating certain cells and proteins that attack cancer and pathogens that don’t belong in a healthy body.

Reishi:

MushroomsThis is hard to find in food form, but easy to find in high quality supplement form. It has been shown to boost immune function by 300%.

Reishi is very therapeutic for lung conditions like asthma and bronchitis. It is also very powerful at treating cancer. In fact, the Japanese government officially recognizes the Reishi mushroom as a cancer treatment.

In addition to beta glucans helping the immune cells bind to tumor cells, many experts believe that the compounds in Reishi reduces the number of cancerous cells, making it easier for T-cells and macrophages to rid the body of them.

Lion’s Mane:

This mushroom is best known for Brain Support and significantly improves brain function and memory.

While Lion’s Mane has many medicinal properties, including immune support,  one of the best is its neuroprotective effects. An interesting article in the Huffington Post shows a dozen studies that have been published since 1991 about Lion’s Mane stimulating the synthesis of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), a protein that promotes the growth and normal function of nerve cells.

Lions main is also powerful to combat arthritis because it improves the body’s ability to fight toxicity and reduces inflammation.

 Cordyceps:

These mushrooms are known for Energy, Stamina, and Endurance. Traditional Chinese medicine used Cordyceps for enhancing energy, longevity and quality of life.  Traditional healers and local people of North Sikkim recommend this mushroom for all diseases either as a single drug or combined with other herbs.

This medicinal mushroomshas been reported to improve oxygen delivery and provide cellular energy through the enhanced synthesis of ATP – your body’s energy currency. Increased ATP synthesis helps your body fight fatigue, while antioxidants help your muscles recover without resorting to stimulant-based energy products.

For you coffee lovers out there, this is my absolute FAVORITE instant mushroom and coffee blend. An amazing way to get coffee while also consuming medicinal mushrooms that will skyrocket your health!

Superfood Benefits and Reasons to Eat

If you are fighting cancer, the flu, or any other chronic disease, explore supplementing with medicinal mushrooms to fight off disease and reset your immune system. You can absolutely eat these mushrooms, but often times they are hard to come by, and the quality and freshness might not be the best.

When purchasing mushroom powders for supplementation, quality is key. To preserve their nutrient healing properties, they should be carefully dehydrated at low temperatures so they retain all of their enzyme activity.

Using a formula with a mixture of these mushrooms makes them even more potent than taking just one at a time. Instead of a flue shot, try mushrooms instead(sounds cray, I know).

If you do buy Shiitake or Maitake mushrooms to eat, I love marinating them in olive oil, lemon juice, and sea salt and throwing them on a salad, soup, or stir-fry dish.

If you buy a powdered form, just throw a couple scoops in to your smoothie!
