How to Choose a Greens Powder

I have been really diving into the research of greens powders, how and if they are actually beneficial, and what is important to look for.

A quality greens powder is full of bioavailable vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that alkalize, cleanse, fuel, and detoxify the body.  (which leads to increased energy, mental clarity, and disease prevention).

I am honestly not a fan of most multivitamins because of their lack of absorbability in the body. For my ‘multivitamin’, I use a quality greens powder to get my vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and amino acids and then I use a quality fish oil and emu oil to get my fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K2.

Based on my research, my two favorite greens powders right now are body ecology fermented greens powder and spirulina and Dr. Axe Organic Super Greens.

How To Choose a Greens Powder

Greens powders have become quite the trend with literally thousands offered just on an Amazon search alone. How is one to choose?!

I used to work with an incredible Doctor that ran tests on different supplements to check for heavy metals, toxins, and the nutrition they actually contained.

It. was. fascinating.

SO MANY supplements, especially greens powders, contained harmful metals, pesticides, and toxic fillers and flavorings.

Needless to say, I became incredibly picky about what greens powders I put into my body. When deciding which greens powder is right for you, there are a few questions you should know the answers to.

What to look for in a greens powder:

  • Where is it sourced? Make sure it is sourced in nutrient-rich, organic soil
  • How is it dried, processed, and packaged? Many supplements destroy the nutrients by how they process the powder.
  • Is it tested for quality? QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY – I like to make sure the company talks about the standards they hold to process their powder. Testing for heavy metals, pesticides, bacteria, etc.
  • Does it contain enzymes and herbs or fermentation to help with digestion and assimilation? Another game changer. You could consume the healthiest powder in the world, but if you don’t assimilate it then nothing else matters. Enzymes, fermentation, and herbal support are important factors in a formulation.

Whichever greens you choose, finding out the answers to those questions will do you wonders!
