The Best Travel Supplements

The Best Travel Supplements

I am off to Paleo f(x) tomorrow and I am so excited to connect with some of the best functional medicine doctors and health professionals around!

When I travel, I want to make sure my immune system is strong and kicking. I also want to maintain energy, good sleep, and digestion– which can sometimes be thrown off by traveling.

These are the supplements I will be traveling with to fuel by brain and body through a very busy week!

Travel Supplements

From left to right in the picture:

Vitamin D: The super star in boosting the immune system. Vitamin D is  a hormone and not a vitamin by function.  Calcitriol, the active form of Vitamin D, is arguably the most powerful hormone in the body. It has the ability to activate over 1,000 genes. D3 effectively enhances the first line of defense against invading microorganisms by strengthening immunity.

B Vitamins: High levels of stress, alcohol, and caffeine deplete your B vitamins. When traveling, there will probably be more of all of these things than usual;) This is important to note because each B vitamin plays an important role in the body and almost all of them help us combat stress. The B complex is responsible for energy generation, and they are also involved with serotonin production which controls your mood, appetite and sleep patterns.

Magnesium: Magnesium is present in all cells of the body and is involved in over 300 enzymatic processes, including energy production. Magnesium is extremely critical for proper detoxification processes. It is a miracle mineral for woman’s hormones and helps to fight inflammation, calms the nervous system, improves digestion, AND helps you relax and sleep!

Digestive Enzymes: I love to bring digestive enzymes with me when I travel for so many reasons. 1. My digestion can get a little out of whack while traveling and taking enzymes with my meals allows for improved digestion and assimilation. 2. The enzymes digest a large part of your food for you so you have more energy to focus on other things.

Vitamin C: Super simple, but a powerful immune support. I load up on this before and after plane rides.

Ashwagnda: This exotic herb has powerful antioxidant properties that protect the brain and nervous system. Studies show how powerful ashwagandha is at reducing tension and stress on the nervous system. I take ashwaganda because it gives me energy when I am lacking and it relaxes me when I am stressed. Amazing little herb indeed! Read more about herbs for energy now.

Probiotics:  These healthy microbes detoxify wastes, neutralize free radicals and enhance nutrient absorption. They also regulate the immune response and release natural and non-toxic antimicrobial factors. Probiotic supplementation has been shown to modulate the immune system and reduce whole body inflammation. They protect your from anything  you may pick up while traveling and make sure your digestion is smooth!

Oil of Oregano: Oregano Oil is an extraordinarily powerful natural antibiotic. Oregano has been found in a recent study to
be significantly better than all of the 18 currently used antibiotics in the treatment of MRSA staph infections. The strong phenol anti-oxidants destroy pathogenic bacteria, viruses and yeasts. Oregano has four times the antioxidant power of blueberries, 12 times that of oranges and 42 times greater than apples.

Fish Oil: Omega 3 fatty acids cannot be synthesized in normal human metabolism and must be derived through
diet. These fats play an important role in  hormones & neurotransmitter function. This is the only Cod Liver Oil that I recommend.

Tea: I love bringing my own tea bags and adding them into hot water wherever I go. I bring detox teas for the plan and caffeine filled tea for when I want a boost and do not want to have the major crash that I have when I drink coffee. My favorite coffee alternatives now.

Do you take them all every day? When I look at the amount it seems you would be doing nothing but swallowing pills the whole day. Please let me know how you take them! Thanks, much love Xx

Hi Eva! That is a fantastic question, because no, I do not take all of them every day. The only things I take daily are:

      – therapeutic grade fish oil
      – probiotic
      – liquid minerals
      – vitamin D3
      – probiotic greens powders
      – Collagen Protein

I have found these to be the most effective supplements. To be honest, I am not even a big fan of pills because most of them do not even get absorbed efficiently by the body- this is why I like to take “whole food” and liquid supplements.

      Supplements I take Occasionally

      – Digestive enzymes- when traveling for the weekend or eating a large meal. AMAZING at helping digestion and giving your digestive system a break.
      – B- vitamins: I take a couple times a week, when needed a brain or energy boost.
      – Magnesium: I take a couple of times a week before bed OR I use magnesium spray for my skin (gets absobed right into blood stream) Amazing for anxiety, sleep, digestion, and PMS
      – Oil of oregano only when I feel a sickness coming along.

Thanks so much for reaching out! I hope this is helpful:)
